Sadie G. Thomas

Sadie G. Thomas is a 56' gaff rigged schooner designed and built by Ferdinand (Red) Nimphius and launched in 1992. Her restoration with us included repairs to the deck, deck frame, cockpit, planking, frames, deadwood, floor timbers, butt blocks, bulkheads, and refastening below the waterline.

We have fabricated and installed bronze knees in way of the main mast partner, and installed a tie rod from
main mast partner to mast step. Repairs also included a new cabin roof, a new bowsprit, removal of internal ballast and re ballasting.

Her lines were pickup up, and her design improved with the removal of internal ballast and the addition of three external ballast pieces. Her center of lateral plane has been shifted forward closer to her new center of effort and her increased stiffness with allow her to carry more sail. She should have improved windward performance. The keel structural changes have resulted in better rudder protection.

We have designed and installed new custom fresh water and holding tanks, and have installed new plumbing throughout with changes in her thru hulls and addition of seacocks. Her engine has been pulled to allow access for floor timber repair beneath, fabrication and installation of an oil drip pan, and installation of new engine mounts. A fuel tank leak has been repaired, and a new sending unit, a second fuel tank, new fuel lines, and gauges have been installed.

A new propane system with a teak deck box and a diesel cabin heater with day tank have been installed. All of her systems were brought up to current ABYC standards.

New bronze custom hardware also included a cranse iron, lifeline stanchions and bases, bowsprit shroud chainplates, dolphin striker, boom gallows, foresail sheet traveler, chain plate covers, rudder heel gudgeon, anchor roller and straps, a hawsepipe for
her chain rode, mast bands, and dinghy davits.

She is having interior cabinet and furniture alterations which include lowering of the owners berth,
a new starboard settee berth, refrigerated ice box, chart table, gimballed drop leaf salon table, hanging
locker, multiple storage lockers, and a new shower basin. The cabin sole is being repaired with the addition of more lift boards.

LED lighting throughout the cabin, a new battery charger, custom fabricated battery boxes and wire chases were installed and instrumentation was relocated and mounted.

She has a new sail plan designed with a new sail inventory which includes a roller furling working jib and a continuous line top down furler for light air jibs at the head. Her gaffs have been peaked up higher; her main boom has been lowered. Her main, forestaysail and jib have been enlarged. She will add a main topsail, fisherman staysail as well. Rigging changes include a new bobstay, bowsprit shrouds, headstay, jibstay, triatic and spring stays. The head of her jibstay has been raised.

We have scarphed on a new topmast top and built new gaff jaws and shroud pinrails, with new turned teak belaying pins. Her mainmast had repair of delamination and water damage at its base.

A new windlass and anchor stop have been installed, and her new ground tackle system includes new custom cast bronze rollers and straps on the bowsprit. She was outfitted with new ground tackle.

She has new canvas covers above deck, and new upholstery below decks.

Her hull below the waterline and much of her exterior bright work was wooded and she had complete paint and varnish refinishing interior and exterior.
